Wadi hafla © 2009: oud music for bellydancers

The tracks

Jazzy fusion bellydance: or Oriental belly jazzdance. Inspired by a famous international oriental dancer, Abdel Hazim took some risks in producing his fifth album. The prominent use of trumpet on 3 of the 7 tracks gave bellydance music a taste of mediterranean jazz.
Another important factor is the genius of the sudanes ud player Sadig Shiak Eldin Gibril. Sadig Gibril's distinctive oud sound and improvisation skills mark almost the entire production. An album dedicated on oud music for bellydancing.

Three other track feature cello and are deeply rooted in oriental music.

 Tahia Carioca in blue
 Tadaru
 Sikka hadid
 Raks maxum
  • Qalbi a demo version without oud on myspace
Qalbi means "my heart" and is improvised on a 10/8 samai or semaï rhythm, dancing on this rhythm is only for advanced bellydancers. It's truly hard to get the feel for this rhythm but not impossible. Real ancient oriental dance...
  • Tahia Carioca in blue
featuring Sadig on oud, Ananta on trumpet, Abed Halabi on percussion and Abdel Hazim on guitar and other instrumens.

Wadi hafla is sometimes jazzy, sometimes Sufi, sometimes straight oriental bellydance, sometimes funky. Unlike the Tribal bellydance, Bellydance revolutions and Fusion bellydance CD's, Wadi hafla doesn't contain tracks where Abdel Hazim didn't play all the instruments himself. On some tracks trumpet is very prominent like "Tahia Carioca in blue", a bellyjazz track on a khaleezji beat.
